Sosa Returns from Rehab Assignment

The Philadelphia Phillies have welcomed back infielder Edmundo Sosa after his successful rehab stint with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Recovering from a 10-day injury, Sosa was reinstated into the team’s lineup on Tuesday. As the Phillies squared off against the Milwaukee Brewers, a key match between National League division leaders, Sosa took the field at third base, batting in the eighth position.

The Journey of Sosa’s Recovery

The 28-year-old Sosa had been on a break since September 6 due to recurring back spasms. Despite his health challenges, he managed to maintain a commendable performance this season. Over 83 games, he posted a .264 batting average with seven home runs, four triples, and 30 RBIs. Remarkably, his triple and RBI numbers match his personal career records.

Sosa’s Impressive MLB Career

Sosa’s professional baseball journey spans 389 games with the St. Louis Cardinals (from 2018-19 and 2021-22) and the Phillies (from 2022-24). Throughout his career, he has proven his versatility by playing every field position except pitcher, catcher, first base, and right field. This season, he has mainly played shortstop, third base, and second base. His career batting average stands at .255, with 25 home runs and 108 RBIs.

Corresponding Roster Move by the Phillies

To accommodate Sosa’s return, the Phillies made a corresponding 28-man roster move. Infielder Buddy Kennedy was sent down to Triple-A. Kennedy, aged 25, has played seven games this September for Philadelphia. He joined the team after being picked up off waivers from the Detroit Tigers, and managed a 2-for-10 batting performance with two RBIs for the Phillies.
