Utah Hockey Club Secures Dylan Guenther with a Lucrative Eight-Year Contract Extension

On one memorable Friday, the Utah Hockey Club made an impressive move by signing forward Dylan Guenther to an eight-year extension, valued at a staggering $57.14 million. This deal means that Guenther will cost an average of a little over $7.14 million per year against the salary cap throughout the contract’s lifespan, which extends to the 2032-33 NHL season.

A Young Star Rising in Salt Lake City

At the tender age of 21, Guenther represents a pivotal element in the team’s future plans. The team, formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes, has now established its roots in Salt Lake City and is looking to make its mark.

“Every aspect of Dylan, both on and off the ice, is elite,” Utah’s general manager, Bill Armstrong, stated. “Dylan is a highly skilled, young forward with a shot that’s rapidly becoming one of the finest in the NHL. Beyond his on-ice prowess, he’s also a person with excellent character and a burning desire to excel. We eagerly anticipate Dylan being a key player in our organization for many years ahead.”

Season Highlights and Future Prospects

Guenther spent the previous season split between the Arizona Coyotes and the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners. He demonstrated his skill with 18 goals and 17 assists, accumulating 35 points in 45 NHL games with the Coyotes.

Guenther’s Journey to the NHL

Guenther, who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, and also played his junior hockey there, was the ninth overall pick in the 2021 draft. He has scored 50 points in 78 career games since making his NHL debut.

With this contract, Guenther has now surpassed defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, who was acquired in an offseason trade from Tampa Bay and is under contract through 2031, as the player with the longest contract in the organization. Forward Clayton Keller and defenseman Sean Durzi are each signed through 2028.
