The Orioles are set to square off against either the Kansas City Royals or the Detroit Tigers in the opening round of the postseason. For the Twins, Brooks Lee managed to get two hits, but it wasn’t enough to prevent their sixth defeat in seven games. The Twins were officially ruled out of the playoff race on Friday. Ryan Jeffers’ two-run homer in the ninth inning saved the Twins from a complete shutout.

Despite starting the season in Class-A Cedar Rapids and moving through three minor league levels, Matthews made his major league debut on August 13 following injuries to Twins’ starters Joe Ryan and Chris Paddack. Matthews, however, only managed to secure a win in his debut, and the Twins recorded a 2-6 run in his last eight starts.

Orioles’ Early Foothold and Rivera’s Outstanding Night

O’Hearn launched his second home run in consecutive nights in the first inning, a two-run blast just inside the left field foul pole, setting the Orioles ahead early on. Rivera amplified the Orioles’ lead to 4-0 in the second inning with a home run into the left-center bullpens. He followed this up with a double in the third, a solo homer in the fifth, and a ninth-inning single, marking the first four-hit game of his career.

Looking ahead, the Twins will field RHP Bailey Ober (12-8, 3.94) in Sunday’s season finale, while the Orioles will give RHP Albert Suárez (8-7, 3.74) his last run before the postseason battle begins.
