Minnesota Wild Sets Sights on Kirill Kaprizov’s Long-Term Contract
The Minnesota Wild are poised to secure their star forward, Kirill Kaprizov, on a long-term contract once he becomes eligible on July 1, as revealed by team owner Craig Leopold. This intention comes as good news considering Kaprizov would be an unrestricted free agent post the 2025-26 season.
Kaprizov’s Promising Career and Upcoming Contract
At 27, the Russian forward still has two seasons left on his five-year, $45 million contract. Kaprizov has been a shining star for the team, leading in goals and points in the previous season, and it’s clear the team heavily relies on him. “He’s going to be the focal point of what we aim to accomplish,” Leopold stated on Tuesday. “Our plan is to re-sign him. I can confidently say that no other team will offer more money or a longer contract. Our job is to assure him that our goal is to win.”
Future Financial Flexibility for the Wild
The Wild are looking at a significant financial wiggle room after the current season concludes. As part of their buyouts, forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter will each account for $833,333 per season against the salary cap, a considerable decrease from the current season’s $7,371,795.
Leopold likens the upcoming financial freedom to Christmas. “The first of July will be a celebration for us,” he commented. “We will have funds available and the necessary resources to get back to our core Wild hockey. We’re eager for that. We’re evaluating who might be available next year. If you’re curious who those players might be, I’m keeping that information close to my chest.”
Kaprizov’s Outstanding Achievements
Kaprizov’s contribution to the Wild has been nothing short of exceptional. He topped the charts for the Wild in the previous season, scoring 46 goals and 96 points in 75 games. The Calder Trophy winner in the 2020-21 season, Kaprizov has accumulated an impressive 330 points, including 160 goals and 170 assists, in his 278-game career with the Wild.
