Steel found himself unmarked at the back post, managing to deftly convert a cross-ice pass from Colin Blackwell into a goal with just 3:43 left in the first period. Barely had the cheers subsided when Johnston, coming off a 32-goal season last year, snapped a wrister home stick side just 13 seconds later, courtesy of a drop pass from Jamie Benn. Philipp Grubauer, the Kraken’s netminder, was left with 21 saves by the end of the match.

Dallas’ Defensive Dominance

Dallas’ defensive excellence wasn’t limited to their goalkeeping, as the team killed all four penalties, allowing a mere two shots on target. So far this season, they boast a formidable record of 10 for 11 on the penalty kill. The last time the Stars delivered back-to-back shutouts was late last season, with a 3-0 win against Seattle on March 30 and a 5-0 victory over Edmonton at home on April 3.

For the Kraken, it was a disappointing night and their first shutout in the three games under new coach Dan Bylsma. The team was blanked seven times last season, where they ranked 29th in goals.
