San Jose Sharks’ promising rookie, Macklin Celebrini, the esteemed first pick in the 2024 NHL draft, will be absent from the ice for at least an additional two weeks due to a lower-body injury.

Mike Grier Updates on Celebrini’s Recovery Timeline

The Sharks’ general manager, Mike Grier, shared the revised recovery timeline for the 18-year-old forward on Monday. Celebrini has been out of play since he scored a goal and an assist in the season opener against the St. Louis Blues on October 10.

Celebrini’s Remarkable Debut Performance

In the season opener, Celebrini managed to score a goal just 7:01 minutes into the game, which marked the second-fastest goal ever scored by a No. 1 pick during their NHL debut. This impressive feat is surpassed only by Mario Lemieux, who scored a goal 2:59 minutes into his debut game with the Pittsburgh Penguins back in 1984.

Looking Back at Celebrini’s College Hockey Career

Prior to entering the NHL, Celebrini had an impressive stint at Boston University. During his one-year tenure, he helped the Terriers reach the NCAA Frozen Four and ended the season with a remarkable 64 points, comprising 32 goals and 32 assists, in just 38 games. His outstanding performance led to him being awarded the 2023-24 Hobey Baker Award.
