Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins Goalie, Enters Personal Training to Improve Performance
The Pittsburgh Penguins have revealed a new strategy to help goaltender Tristan Jarry regain his form following a rocky start to the season. The team’s coach, Mike Sullivan, announced on October 24, 2024, that Jarry has been reassigned to individual training in a bid to enhance his performance.
Penguins’ Goalie to Focus on Personal Training Amidst Ongoing Road Trip
Currently, the Penguins are navigating a four-game road trip across Western Canada, with their next game scheduled for Friday in Edmonton. Jarry, who has a 5.47 goals-against average and an .836 save percentage in the three games he’s played, has been allowed to take a step back from this tour to focus on his training.
Jarry’s Performance Sparks Concern
Jarry, a two-time All-Star, was last benched after conceding three goals in five shots during the first period of the Penguins’ 6-5 overtime triumph over Buffalo on October 16. Coach Sullivan confirmed that Jarry will be working closely with Jon Elkin, the club’s director of goaltending, to optimize his form.
Addressing Early Season Struggles
“This measure is just a part of our existing plan to help Tristan return to his top form,” Sullivan explained. Jarry is in his second year of a five-year contract extension that he signed in July 2023.
Despite leading the NHL in shutouts last season, Jarry’s performance has been a cause for concern. His goals-against average (2.91) and save percentage (.903) in the last season marked career lows since he became an NHL regular during the 2019-20 season.
Team Optimistic Despite Troubled Start
Though the early part of the season has been challenging for Jarry, both he and the Penguins are optimistic about his comeback. Sullivan commented, “The initial games weren’t his best, but it’s our duty to support our players when they face inevitable struggles in the league. Tristan is no exception.”
In Jarry’s absence, Alex Nedjelkovic and rookie Joel Blomqvist are sharing the goaltending responsibilities for Pittsburgh, which has suffered three consecutive losses. The team will wrap up their road trip in Vancouver on Saturday before they return to Pittsburgh for a three-game homestand the following week. It remains uncertain when Jarry will be back on ice for a game.
Jarry’s Return to Action
Sullivan concluded, “This is a process that we’ve put in place, and Tristan is on board with it. We’ll proceed from here.” This structured approach to Jarry’s training underlines the team’s commitment to helping its players overcome obstacles and perform at their best.
