The Dallas Stars have taken decisive action, banning a fan from American Airlines Center indefinitely after a video surfaced showing the individual appearing to make a Nazi salute during a recent game. The incident, which occurred during a matchup in December, gained traction on social media, prompting the organization to initiate an internal investigation.
Footage from the game on December 21 against the Toronto Maple Leafs showed several male fans in the upper section of the arena making the offensive gesture to the rhythm of the team’s goal song, “Puck Off” by Pantera. While the Stars identified the ticket purchaser, they have not publicly named him or identified the others present with him.
“We identified and spoke with the individual who purchased the tickets and will be banning the individual indefinitely from American Airlines Center,” a Stars spokesperson confirmed. This ban underscores the team’s commitment to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all fans.
In response to this incident, the Stars are also ramping up their in-arena messaging regarding the Fan Code of Conduct, emphasizing the importance of reporting violations. The spokesperson added, “Any type of discriminatory or hateful behavior will not be tolerated and has no place in our arena. Creating and sustaining environments that are inclusive, safe and respectful is a non-negotiable for the Dallas Stars.”
The American Airlines Arena and the NHL both uphold strict codes of conduct for fans, and the gestures displayed by these individuals clearly violated those principles. As of now, the NHL has not indicated whether the ban on the individual will extend to all league events.
