Georgii Romanov is set to continue his journey in the NHL after signing a two-year contract extension with the St. Louis Blues. The former San Jose Sharks goaltender secured his future on Friday, demonstrating the Blues’ confidence in his abilities.
Initially joining the Sharks as an undrafted free agent in May 2023, Romanov spent two seasons with the organization. Most of his time was dedicated to the American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, where he took the ice for 50 games. Over that span, he compiled a record of 20 wins, 15 losses, and 13 overtime losses, alongside a .904 save percentage and a 3.12 goals against average.
However, Romanov faced challenges at the NHL level, appearing in 10 games for the Sharks where he recorded an .888 save percentage and a 3.53 goals against average, ultimately finishing without a win at 0-6-0. After the 2024-25 season, the Sharks chose not to extend him a qualifying offer, leading Romanov to sign a one-year deal with the Blues.
During the 2025-26 season, he spent the entire year with the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. Romanov played in 28 regular season games, achieving a 9-12-4 record with a 3.29 goals against average and a .896 save percentage. Yet, his performance improved significantly in the playoffs, where he went 7-4-0, boasting an impressive 1.84 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.
