As the MLB trade deadline loomed, the Colorado Rockies plunged into the fray, making a flurry of moves that kept fans on the edge of their seats. In a whirlwind of activity, the Rockies executed three of their four trades in the final hours leading up to the 4 p.m. MDT deadline on Monday. Notably, Hunter Goodman, who generated significant buzz in trade discussions, remains with the team. Colorado kicked off their trading spree by sending center fielder Brenton Doyle to the Chicago White Sox, followed by the departure of former starter Antonio Senzatela to the Milwaukee Brewers. The day concluded with right-handed reliever Victor Vodnik being traded to the Miami Marlins. Earlier in July, the Rockies had also dealt RHP reliever Seth Halvorsen to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With the trade deadline behind them, the Rockies are now focused on baseball—weather permitting. Following a scorching day that saw temperatures soar into the triple digits, ominous storm clouds are gathering, raising questions about the evening’s game.
Tonight, the Rockies will wrap up a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, who currently hold a strong record of 65-46. Colorado, sitting at 45-67, is riding the momentum of a recent three-game sweep over the Kansas City Royals, a feat that allowed them to surpass their 43-win total from 2025.
On the mound for the Rockies will be right-hander Michael Lorenzen, who has faced challenges this season with a record of 3-9 and an ERA of 6.54. Lorenzen is looking to rebound after two disappointing outings; his most recent performance on July 28 resulted in three runs allowed over four innings in an 8-7 loss to the San Diego Padres. Prior to that, he struggled against the Nationals, giving up six runs on seven hits, including two home runs, in another close 8-7 defeat at Coors Field.
Opposing him will be left-hander Ian Seymour, who boasts a 7-3 record and a 4.37 ERA for the AL East-leading Rays. The 27-year-old, a second-round pick from 2020, made his MLB debut in 2025 and has appeared in 36 games this season, though only seven have been as a starter. He holds a 2-2 record as a starter with a 5.34 ERA, having gone at least five innings in five of those starts. Notably, tonight marks Seymour’s first appearance at Coors Field.
The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MDT, with fans able to catch the action on Rockies.TV or tune into the radio broadcast on 850 AM/94.1 FM KOA Rockies Radio Network and KNRV 1150 AM for Spanish coverage. For additional insights and updates, check out DRaysBay, the Rays’ SB Nation site.
