Andrew Agozzino Transitions to Coaching Role After Retirement from Playing

Andrew Agozzino is embarking on a new chapter in his hockey career, but this time, he won’t be skating on the ice. Just days after announcing his retirement from professional hockey, the former Colorado Avalanche forward has joined the Utah Mammoth organization as an assistant coach for the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners.

Utah made the announcement on Saturday, marking a seamless transition for Agozzino as he steps into coaching after a successful playing career. Over the last two seasons, he served as an alternate captain in Tucson, where he amassed 82 points, including 39 goals and 43 assists, alongside 78 penalty minutes in 111 games. His leadership and experience made him a respected figure in the Roadrunners’ locker room, qualities that the organization will now leverage in his new role.

While his opportunities in the NHL were limited, Agozzino made an appearance in two games with the Mammoth during the 2025-26 season, contributing to a professional journey that spanned eight NHL seasons with teams such as the San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Avalanche. The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward concluded his NHL career with 12 points, comprising three goals and nine assists, in 53 games.

However, Agozzino’s most significant impact came in the American Hockey League, where he became a three-time AHL All-Star. Over the course of 15 seasons, he collected an impressive 662 points, consisting of 284 goals and 378 assists, while participating in 847 career games.
