The St. Louis Blues are embarking on a significant overhaul of their coaching staff, announcing on Friday that assistant coaches Claude Julien and Mike Weber will not return for the upcoming season. This decision marks a pivotal moment as the organization looks to reshape its approach moving forward.
Blues general manager Doug Armstrong expressed gratitude for the contributions of both coaches, stating, “I would like to thank Claude and Mike for their contributions during their time with the organization. With their contracts set to expire this summer, we wanted to give them the opportunity to move on to the next chapter of their coaching careers while we work to build a coaching staff that is best suited to lead our team moving forward.”
Claude Julien, 65, joined the Blues as an assistant coach in the summer of 2024. During his time with the team, he helped navigate the Blues to an 81-63-20 regular-season record and a postseason appearance in 2025. Julien boasts over two decades of coaching experience, including head coaching roles with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, and Boston Bruins, with whom he captured the Stanley Cup in 2011.
Mike Weber, 38, came on board as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023. His tenure saw the Blues achieve a 124-96-26 regular-season record, also leading to a playoff appearance in 2025. Before joining the Blues, Weber served as an assistant coach with the AHL’s Rochester Americans and the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires.
With the hiring of coach Jim Montgomery in November 2024, both Julien and Weber remained in their roles. Montgomery now has the opportunity to bring in a familiar face or a new addition to the coaching staff as the team prepares for the future.
The Blues wrapped up their season on a high note, clinching a 5-3 victory against the Utah Mammoth, marking their fourth consecutive win. However, they fell just four points short of a playoff berth. The organization will address these coaching changes during the locker room cleanout on Saturday, where Armstrong, Montgomery, and players will reflect on the season and the upcoming off-season plans.
