Brady Singer Ready to Start for Reds in Preseason Showdown Against Brewers

Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds received troubling news early in spring training when Hunter Greene underwent elbow surgery to remove bone spurs, sidelining their ace until the All-Star break in July. Fortunately, the injury report has been mostly manageable since then, aside from Caleb Ferguson’s oblique issue. However, as the temperatures soared in Goodyear, a wave of blisters began to plague the team.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Nick Lodolo had a blister severe enough to require popping, adding to the concern surrounding Brady Singer, who was also dealing with a similar issue. As Opening Day approached, the last thing the Reds needed was another setback in their pitching staff.

Fortunately, it appears that Singer has avoided any significant issues and is set to take the mound tonight in Milwaukee, where the Reds will face the Brewers in a preseason exhibition game at American Family Field. For many fans, it will always be known as Miller Park.

Cincinnati has largely finalized its Opening Day roster, eliminating any remaining position battles in camp. Nonetheless, several non-roster players made the trip with the team, including Michael Chavis, Garrett Hampson, Hector Rodriguez, Tejay Antone, and Michael Toglia, all of whom will be available off the bench tonight.

Doug Gray of Redleg Nation shared the travel roster on Bluesky, highlighting manager Terry Francona’s decision to have Ke’Bryan Hayes serve as the designated hitter from the #2 spot in the lineup. On the mound for the Brewers will be lefty Aaron Ashby, who is also the nephew of former big league pitcher Andy Ashby, a name that might remind fans just how long the game has been played.

The Reds have constructed a lineup that includes TJ Friedl in left field, complemented by a lineup full of right-handed hitters to combat Ashby’s southpaw stance. Sal Stewart will handle second base, Dane Myers will take center field, and Eugenio Suarez will be at third base, ready to showcase his defensive skills.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM ET. Unfortunately for those hoping to watch, the game will not be televised, but fans can tune in to 700 WLW for the radio broadcast.
