Luke Tuch’s journey with the Montreal Canadiens has reached a new chapter as he is headed to the Columbus Blue Jackets. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens have traded Tuch in exchange for forward Hunter McKown, marking a notable shift for both players involved.
Tuch was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round, 47th overall, during the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. After completing his collegiate career at Boston University, he spent the last three seasons with the AHL’s Laval Rocket. In his 114 games with Laval, Tuch scored 15 goals and 13 assists, accumulating a total of 28 points along with 122 penalty minutes. Last season, he appeared in 68 games for the Rocket, contributing nine goals and 14 points while also picking up 82 penalty minutes.
On the flip side, Hunter McKown has been making his mark in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters over the past three seasons. During the last campaign, McKown played 63 games, notching nine goals and 16 assists for a total of 25 points. He also has some NHL experience under his belt, having recorded two assists in 12 games for the Blue Jackets during the 2022-23 season. However, he has not seen NHL action since that season.
This trade represents a minor swap between the Canadiens and Blue Jackets, yet it offers both Tuch and McKown an opportunity to redefine their careers with new teams. Fans will be eager to see how they adapt and perform in the upcoming season.
