Chicago Cubs Bolster Their Pitching Roster with Enoli Paredes
In a recent move aimed at reinforcing their pitching lineup, the Chicago Cubs announced the acquisition of right-handed reliever Enoli Paredes from the Milwaukee Brewers. The 29-year-old Paredes, who is celebrating his birthday this Saturday, has maintained a commendable track record with 1-0, a 1.74 ERA, and a save from his 17 relief appearances with the Brewers.
Paredes’ Journey Through the Season
Earlier this season, Paredes faced a challenging period due to a right forearm issue, sidelining him for over two months. However, he has shown resilience and has bounced back in the game. To further fortify their bullpen, the Cubs also welcomed back right-handers Gavin Hollowell and Caleb Kilian from Triple-A Iowa, just in time for the kick-off of their three-game series in Philadelphia.
Changes in the Cubs’ Roster
The Cubs’ roster experienced a significant shift with Jorge López, another right-handed pitcher, being placed on a 15-day injury list due to a right groin strain. Subsequently, right-hander Trey Wingenter was relocated to the Arizona Complex League. López, aged 31, had joined the Cubs after being released by the New York Mets in June. His contributions to the team have been noteworthy, having a 1-1 record, a 2.03 ERA, and two saves in his 24 appearances with the Cubs.
Departure and Arrival: Brewers and Cubs Make Moves
The Brewers had to make a tough decision when they designated Paredes for assignment last Friday, which paved the way for the Cubs to claim him. This move coincided with the Brewers’ decision to call up right-hander Kevin Herget from Triple-A Nashville. Paredes holds a 4-3 record, a 3.06 ERA, 51 strikeouts, a save, and 41 walks over 53 innings in his 54 career major league appearances, all in a relieving role. His experience spans from 2020 to 2022, pitching for the Houston Astros.
Open Spot on the Cubs’ Roster
The Cubs were able to accommodate Paredes due to a vacancy on their 40-man roster, which opened up following the designation of right-hander Shawn Armstrong for assignment last week. This strategic move marks a fresh chapter in the Cubs’ pitching rotation, promising an exciting season ahead.
