Dodgers Secure Spot in 12th Consecutive Postseason Despite Key Pitcher’s Injury

The Dodgers have secured their place in the postseason for the twelfth year running, even as their All-Star pitcher, Tyler Glasnow, grapples with a recurring elbow injury that prematurely ended his inaugural season with the Los Angeles team.

Glasnow’s Injury Woes

The 31-year-old right-hand pitcher confirmed on Friday that his elbow sprain didn’t necessitate further diagnostic procedures and is optimistic about avoiding surgery. “It’s incredibly disheartening,” Glasnow admitted. “My goal was to help the team win the World Series and be a key player in the postseason.”

Glasnow was placed on the injured list on August 16 due to an elbow tendinitis issue. He was gradually getting back into his stride when he had to stop after just a few warmup throws in a simulated game in Atlanta last week, citing discomfort in his arm.

Glasnow’s Frustration with Recurring Injury

“Just understood pushing it further would have been imprudent,” he said. In 2022, Glasnow underwent Tommy John surgery, following which he made 21 starts and pitched 120 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays the subsequent year. This year, he exceeded these benchmarks with career highs of 22 starts and 134 innings pitched, before making his final start on August 11. He averaged a commendable 11.3 strikeouts per every nine innings.

Finding a Solution

Glasnow is confident that his pitching mechanics are solid. However, the towering 6-foot-8-inch pitcher recognizes that his extensive reach likely inflicts considerable strain on his arm. “I’m trying to come up with a way to lessen the stress on my elbow,” he shared. “I’m just figuring it all out and plan to incorporate it during the offseason and the upcoming season.”
