Dodgers Trim Roster, Send 12 Players Including Josue De Paula to Minor League Camp

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers made significant roster moves on Sunday afternoon, announcing their second round of cuts in spring training. A total of 12 players were reassigned to minor league camp, among them the highly regarded prospect Josue De Paula.

In addition to De Paula, the team optioned Ryan Ward and pitcher Ronan Kopp to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Both had been added to the 40-man roster in November. The other ten players affected by the cuts were non-roster invitees, including pitchers Carlos Duran, Carson Hobbs, Garrett McDaniels, Jackson Ferris, Wyatt Mills, Jordan Weems, and Lucas Wepf; catcher Griffin Lockwood-Powell; and outfielder Kendall George.

This round of cuts marks the first significant roster trimming since 11 players were sent to minor league camp on March 2. De Paula, who has been a standout this spring, is tied for the team’s lead with 15 games played, participating in every game except one since the Cactus League action began on February 21. He has recorded nine hits, including a double, in 27 at-bats, complemented by four walks and eight strikeouts.

Interestingly, Wepf is the only player involved in this latest round of cuts who has yet to take the field this spring. With these roster adjustments, the Dodgers now have 51 players remaining in camp, including 26 pitchers and 25 position players, as they continue to refine their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
