Edmonton Oilers’ Evander Kane Set to Undergo Surgery
General Manager’s Announcement
Evander Kane, the dynamic forward of Edmonton Oilers, will be benched into the commencement of the regular season due to a scheduled surgery, as announced by Stan Bowman, the team’s general manager, on Wednesday. Bowman refrained from providing any specific details about the surgical procedure, stating, “He will be out of action for a significant period. The exact nature of the surgery is something I wouldn’t want to speculate on. Our team doctors will provide a more accurate assessment, but it’s clear he won’t be around for some time.”
Kane’s Previous Performance and Injury
Kane, aged 33, showcased a stellar performance during the 2023-24 regular season, tallying 44 points from 24 goals and 20 assists in 77 games. He also contributed eight points, including four goals and four assists, in 20 playoff matches. However, his participation was cut short in the last five games of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers due to a sports hernia injury.
The Decision for Surgery
Bowman elucidated the decision behind the surgery, saying, “Our goal was to identify the best course of action considering his injury. When players sustain injuries, there are usually multiple ways to go about it. After a diagnosis, the options could range from rehabilitation to surgery, or even trying rehab first before opting for surgery.”
Bowman added, “In reality, no one is keen on undergoing surgery due to the potential complications that may arise. Evander is probably in a better position to comment on that.”
Evander Kane’s Career Summary
Throughout his professional career, Kane has accumulated 617 points, including 326 goals and 291 assists, across 930 games with several teams such as the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, and the Oilers. His journey in the NHL began when he was drafted by the Thrashers as the fourth pick in the 2009 NHL draft.
