However, the game saw a dramatic turnaround in the third quarter as the Lakers outscored the Suns 35-24, with Davis and James each scoring 11 in the period.

The Lakers found themselves trailing 81-74 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, a sudden surge of nine points saw them snatch the lead, sparking a 20-6 run covering almost five minutes from the late third to the early fourth quarter.
