In a day filled with nail-biting finishes, the Mets’ minor league affiliates faced tough challenges, with five teams falling just short by a single run. The most thrilling of the matchups came from Syracuse, where MJ Melendez emerged as the hero.
With the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Melendez launched a two-run home run that propelled Syracuse to an 8-6 victory over Worcester. Jorge Polance made a notable return to the field, reaching base once during his rehab appearance, adding a layer of excitement to the victory.
Meanwhile, in Chesapeake, the Rumble Ponies battled fiercely but ultimately succumbed to Binghamton, losing 5-4. Nick Lucky was a standout performer, driving in three runs and showcasing his speed with a stolen base. R.J. Gordon also shone on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out two, while allowing no runs.
The action continued in Frederick, where the Cyclones fell to the Keys in a high-scoring affair, losing 8-7. Brooklyn’s offense showcased power with three home runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit created by Dakota Hawkins, who allowed six runs (five earned) in just two innings.
St. Lucie faced a tough challenge against Tampa, losing narrowly 1-0. The lone run came in the second inning off Christian Rodriguez, who struggled, giving up seven hits over three and two-thirds innings. The St. Lucie bullpen, however, was exceptional, not allowing a baserunner in five and a third innings and striking out nine. Unfortunately, the Mets offense could not capitalize, managing only five hits without scoring.
In the FCL, the Mets and Marlins faced an unusual situation as their game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning, with both teams tied at 1-1. Meanwhile, the DSL Mets Orange team came close but fell to the DSL Giants Black, 5-4, while the DSL Mets Blue lost a wild game to the DSL Rangers Blue, 13-12.
