Skylar Thompson Steps Up as Dolphins’ Main Quarterback Following Tua Tagovailoa’s Concussion

In response to an unfortunate turn of events, the Miami Dolphins have made a strategic move, substituting their primary quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is currently grappling with a concussion. Head Coach Mike McDaniel confirmed on Friday that Skylar Thompson will be taking the reins as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback during Tagovailoa’s absence.

Tagovailoa suffered a significant blow during Thursday night’s disappointing 31-10 defeat against Buffalo, marking the third concussion of his NFL career, all within a span of 24 months.

Team’s Confidence in Skylar Thompson

“Our team and the entire organization have full faith in Skylar,” affirmed McDaniel.

Tagovailoa’s future involvement in the team remains uncertain. McDaniel revealed that there’s no final decision yet about whether Tagovailoa will be shifted to injured reserve. They expect him at the team facility on Friday to initiate an in-depth evaluation process.

Navigating the Uncertainty

“We need to operate amidst the uncertainty and be ready for all possibilities,” said McDaniel. He stressed that the only viewpoints that will hold weight for the team will come from Tagovailoa himself and the medical team.

McDaniel, with an air of uncertainty, conveyed that he doesn’t anticipate Tagovailoa participating in Miami’s forthcoming match against Seattle, scheduled for Sept. 22.

“I’m not about to make decisions that I don’t see myself having a significant role in,” McDaniel stated. He further expressed that he advised Tagovailoa to focus on his role as a father and that further decisions will be made based on the doctors’ advice and the player’s condition.

During his injury-stricken game, Tagovailoa managed to complete 17 out of 25 passes for 145 yards, scoring one touchdown and three interceptions, one of which Buffalo converted into a score.

Skylar Thompson’s Preparedness to Lead

In contrast, Thompson successfully completed eight out of 14 passes for a total of 80 yards. A confident Thompson declared that he feels “completely prepared” to executive Dolphins’ offensive strategy.

“Whatever lies ahead is uncertain, but I am confident,” Thompson expressed after Thursday’s game. “I believe I’m ready for whatever comes my way. I will prepare, work hard, and do everything within my power to lead this team and fulfill my responsibilities.”
