Minnesota Twins Set to Reinstate Byron Buxton Following Injury Recovery
Following a prolonged period of recovery, the Minnesota Twins have confirmed their intention to bring back Byron Buxton, their star outfielder, from the 10-day injured list. The activation is scheduled just in time for their forthcoming encounter against the Cincinnati Reds this Friday. Buxton has been off the field since August 13, grappling with inflammation in his right hip.
Manager Rocco Baldelli Announces Buxton’s Return
The news of Buxton’s imminent return was unveiled by Minnesota Twins’ manager, Rocco Baldelli, in the wake of their 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. To make room for Buxton on the active roster, utility player Austin Martin is set to be reassigned to Triple-A St. Paul.
Buxton’s Recovery and Rehab Assignment
Buxton had initiated a rehab assignment with St. Paul on September 2, managing to play in two games before experiencing a recurrence of his injury. Throughout this week, he has been engaging in pregame hitting sessions off minor league pitchers at Target Field, alongside shortstop Carlos Correa. Correa himself has been absent from the field since July 16 due to plantar fasciitis.
Byron Buxton: An All-Star’s Battle with Injuries
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time the 30-year-old Buxton, a former All-Star and Platinum Glove recipient in center field, has been placed on the injured list this season. Earlier in the year, he missed 23 games due to inflammation in his right knee, and his most recent injury has kept him sidelined for an additional 28 games.
Despite these setbacks, Buxton has managed to participate in 90 games this season. If he manages to play in two more, it would match his second-highest seasonal game count, second only to the 140 games he played in the 2017 season.
Impressive Statistics Despite Injuries
Despite his time off the field, Buxton’s performance remains commendable. The outfielder currently boasts a .275 batting average with 16 home runs and 49 RBI this season. His imminent return is eagerly anticipated by the Minnesota Twins and their fans.
