Dakota Joshua, a prominent forward for the Vancouver Canucks, bravely shared his testicular cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment journey with the public this week. Diagnosed earlier this summer, the 28-year-old NHL player underwent a successful surgical procedure to excise the tumor.
Dakota Joshua’s Ongoing Recovery and Future Plans
Joshua expressed his intent to return to the ice for the 2024-25 season, stating, “I discovered a lump on one of my testicles this past summer, which was later identified as testicular cancer,” in a heartfelt statement released by the Canucks. He continued, “While the diagnosis was alarming, I am grateful that the medical team was successful in removing the tumor.”
In the past few weeks, Joshua has faced significant challenges while recovering. However, he expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support he has received from his family, friends, teammates, and medical professionals.
Temporary Hiatus and Anticipated Return
Joshua confirmed that his recovery from the surgery would prevent him from participating in the initial phase of the training camp. However, he remains determined to return to the rink as quickly as his health permits, and is working diligently towards regaining his strength to rejoin his teammates.
Dakota Joshua: A Brief Career History
A Michigan native, Joshua made his NHL debut in the 2020-21 season with the St. Louis Blues. After two partial seasons with the Blues, he was signed as a free agent by the Canucks, where he secured a more prominent position. In the previous season, he had a career-best performance, netting 18 goals and assisting 14 times in 63 games, accumulating a total of 32 points. In his career so far, Joshua has amassed 64 points, including 33 goals and 31 assists, along with 567 hits and 143 penalty minutes, across 184 games with the Blues and Canucks.
