Pelicans Seal Deal with Jose Alvarado for Extended Contract

Basketball guard Jose Alvarado has just inked a two-year contract extension worth $9 million with the New Orleans Pelicans.

At 26, Alvarado had only a year and $1.9 million remaining on his previous contract. This new agreement solidifies his place in the Pelicans’ lineup until the 2025-26 season, with an option for the player to extend for the 2026-27 season.

Standing at 6 feet, Alvarado has quickly become a crowd favorite, recognized for his tireless efforts and dynamic hustle on the court. He has been part of the Pelicans for the past three years. His journey with the team started in 2021 with a two-way contract, following a successful four-year stint at Georgia Tech.

Alvarado’s Performance and Future Role

Alvarado’s past season saw him average 7.1 points and 2.1 assists per game over 56 games for the Pelicans. His dedication and performance even earned him a sixth-place finish in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year voting.

As the new season unfolds, Alvarado is expected to take the role of the team’s secondary point guard, backing up Dejounte Murray. Murray, who was traded to New Orleans from the Atlanta Hawks in June, will be taking the lead.
