San Francisco 49ers Enlist Matthew Wright Following Jake Moody’s Injury

The San Francisco 49ers have chosen to sign on experienced kicker Matthew Wright, stepping in for the injured Jake Moody, according to a credible source on Tuesday. Moody, who is suffering from a severe ankle sprain, will sit out for Thursday night’s clash with the Seattle Seahawks.

49ers Explore Kicking Options Amidst Moody’s Injury

In addition to Wright, the 49ers had also considered kickers Randy Bullock, Riley Patterson, Anders Carlson, and Matt Coghlin. The team is finding ways to compensate for Moody’s absence following his injury, which occurred during the second quarter of Sunday’s nail-biting 24-23 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals.

Details of Moody’s Injury

With less than five minutes remaining in the second quarter, Moody sustained the injury. The incident happened after Jordan Elliott, 49ers defensive tackle, blocked a field goal attempt, which was subsequently returned 61 yards for a touchdown by cornerback Deommodore Lenoir.

Moody was set to kick the following kickoff for a touchback, as he had done successfully in almost all of his 27 kickoffs this season. However, against the wind, he ended up under the ball slightly, providing Cardinals returner DeeJay Dallas a return chance.

As Dallas maneuvered past the initial line of 49ers defenders, he met Moody on the field’s left side. Attempting to tackle, Moody was shoved backwards, causing his body to fold over his right leg, which he uses for kicking. In an immediate display of frustration, Moody threw his helmet down, as he realized the incident mirrored a past one when he broke his leg in eighth grade.

Matthew Wright’s Career Highlights

Wright has previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and Carolina Panthers throughout his professional football career. He boasts a record of successful field goal attempts (40 out of 47) and extra points (35 out of 37).
