New Jersey Devils Prepare for Season Debut of Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce
Recovering from Injuries
Scheduled for a much-anticipated return to the ice, Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce are expected to make their season debut for the New Jersey Devils this Thursday night in Detroit. Both players have been sidelined due to injuries, with Hughes, 21, suffering from a shoulder injury incurred during offseason training. Brett Pesce, on the other hand, suffered a broken leg during last season’s playoff with the Carolina Hurricanes and has been steadily rehabilitating.
New Jersey Devils Performance in their Absence
The New Jersey Devils have had to adapt and navigate the season without these key defensemen. So far, the team has a record of 5-3-1. However, the Devils have been struggling defensively, conceding 14 goals in their last two matches.
Player Highlights
Despite the setback, Hughes had an exceptional previous season. He managed to score nine goals and provided 38 assists in a span of 82 games. His outstanding performance earned him a nomination for the Calder Trophy, an esteemed award given to the NHL’s best rookie.
Brett Pesce’s Transition to the New Jersey Devils
Pesce, aged 29, transitioned to the New Jersey Devils as a free agent during the offseason. He secured a lucrative contract, signing a six-year deal worth $33 million. Prior to his move, Pesce had an impressive record with the Hurricanes, accumulating 39 goals and 159 assists over his 627 game tenure. He was initially drafted by the Hurricanes in 2013.
