St. Louis Blues Clinch Victory Over Tampa Bay Lightning

In a nerve-wracking ice duel, the St. Louis Blues emerged victorious against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 3-2 scoreline on Tuesday night. A series of splendid goals from Jordan Kyrou, Alexey Toropchenko, and Oskar Sundqvist were instrumental in the Blues’ win.

The Blues’ custodian, Jordan Binnington, exhibited a stellar performance, making 21 crucial saves. This win marked his 149th career victory, putting him just past Jake Allen, and only two wins short of Mike Liut’s record of 151, in the franchise’s history.

Lightning Struggles Continue

On the other hand, the Lightning, despite commendable efforts from Nick Perbix and Victor Hedman who scored, and Andrei Vasilevskiy who made 20 saves, couldn’t break their losing streak, which now extends to three consecutive games.

Kyrou netted his fourth goal of the season, 8:51 into the final period, extending the Blues’ lead to 3-1. Toropchenko and Sundqvist also made significant contributions, with Toropchenko scoring his season’s first goal with only 1:35 left in the second period, and Sundqvist equalizing earlier at 7:47, marking his first of the season.

A Night of Missed Opportunities and Injuries

The Lightning might have felt the void left by C Brayden Point, who couldn’t participate due to an undisclosed injury. Point had been in sublime form, scoring in his past five consecutive games.

On the Blues’ side, they managed to rally even after losing a crucial player, Dylan Holloway, to injury for the second consecutive game, late in the first period.

Holloway was hit by a puck in the neck in his previous shift and had to be stretchered off the ice with 1:11 left in the first period. The play was stopped for a potential penalty, and Blues’ players were seen calling for medical help. Holloway, however, remained alert and stable and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for further observation.

The Blues have shown tremendous resilience this season, boasting a 5-4-0 record when the opponent scores first. This is a significant improvement from their 10-29-4 record in the same scenario last season.
