Vegas Golden Knights Conclude Shea Theodore’s Multi-Year Contract Extension
The Vegas Golden Knights have confirmed the signing of Shea Theodore, their star defenseman, to a seven-year contract extension. This move augments one of the most formidable defensive line-ups in the NHL, further strengthening the team’s roster.
Shea Theodore’s New Deal
With a staggering $51.9 million deal, Theodore’s contract boasts an average yearly value of $7.425 million, extending up to the 2031-32 season. At 29, Theodore has been a core member of the Vegas Golden Knights since their inception season in 2017-18. He was part of the original “Golden Misfit” crew and joined the Knights through an expansion draft deal from the Anaheim Ducks.
Theodore’s Outstanding Contribution to the Knights
Over eight seasons, Theodore has chalked up 296 points in 450 games for the Knights, establishing himself as the top-scoring defenseman in the history of the franchise. His impressive performance in the 2023 playoffs, where he contributed 13 points in 21 games, was instrumental in helping the Knights secure their first-ever Stanley Cup championship.
Theodore’s Future and the Knights’ Strategy
Theodore’s future with the Knights was the subject of much speculation, particularly after they traded for Calgary Flames’ defenseman Noah Hanifin, 27, last season and signed him to an eight-year, $58.8 million contract extension in April. Theodore was on the brink of becoming an unrestricted free agent the following summer, and the Knights are known for their unflinching approach to tough business decisions concerning beloved veteran players.
However, the Knights have now ensured that their defensive line-up, one of the NHL’s finest, remains intact until at least the 2026-27 season. This trio includes Theodore, Hanifin, and 34-year-old Alex Pietrangelo, who has three more years left on his contract with an average annual value of $8.8 million.
