DeMarcus Lawrence Placed on Injured Reserve, KJ Henry Signed

In a recent development from Frisco, Texas, the Dallas Cowboys have placed star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence on injured reserve due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. This move has led to the signing of defensive end KJ Henry from the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad. Lawrence’s recovery period from the injury, sustained during the third quarter of the recent victory against the New York Giants, is projected to last four to eight weeks. Fortunately, surgery won’t be necessary.

Team Prepares for Absence of Micah Parsons

In addition to Lawrence’s injury, the Cowboys are also bracing for the potential absence of edge rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons is currently dealing with a high sprain on his left ankle.

KJ Henry’s Journey to the Cowboys

Henry has shown potential in his two appearances for the Bengals this season before being moved to the practice squad. The Cowboys expressed interest in him during the final cuts, after he was released by the Washington Commanders. However, the Bengals were ahead in the claiming process. As a fifth-round draft pick in 2023, Henry made 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 10 games last year for the Commanders. Due to the conditions of his signing from the practice squad, Henry is obligated to be on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster for a minimum of three games.

Defensive End Position: A Look at Possible Alternatives

With Lawrence out and Henry in, the Cowboys are considering promoting veteran defensive end Carl Lawson from the practice squad for the third straight game as they prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. Lawson would need to be added to the 53-man roster to be eligible to play again after his third call-up. Additionally, Tyrus Wheat, who has been inactive for the past two games, is on the active roster.
