Brewers Fans Weigh In: Who Should Start on Opening Day?

Milwaukee Brewers News

The anticipation for the Milwaukee Brewers’ Opening Day is building, and fans have had their say on who should take the mound when the season kicks off. After gathering opinions on the complete Opening Day roster last week, this week’s survey focused on the pivotal decision of naming the Opening Day starter.

Brandon Woodruff has long been viewed as the frontrunner for the role, but recent reports suggest he may not be fully prepared for the season opener. This uncertainty opens the door for other contenders. Among those vying for the position are Jacob Misiorowski and Chad Patrick, both of whom enjoyed promising rookie seasons. Additional names in the mix include Aaron Ashby, Robert Gasser, DL Hall, and Kyle Harrison.

The survey results reflect a clear preference among fans. Misiorowski emerged as the favorite, capturing 50% of the votes. Woodruff followed with 28%, while Patrick garnered 11%. The remaining 10% of respondents opted for the “Other” category, indicating a diverse range of opinions.

Despite having the most innings pitched this spring, Patrick has faced challenges, posting a 5.40 ERA over five innings with seven strikeouts. In contrast, Misiorowski has shown promise, allowing just one run in 3 1/3 innings during his lone appearance, along with a strong performance in an exhibition against Great Britain where he pitched two innings with another run allowed. Across his 5 1/3 innings this spring, Misiorowski has racked up 11 strikeouts but has also issued six walks and allowed four hits.

Woodruff made his spring debut on March 7 against the Angels, delivering two scoreless innings with two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts on 32 pitches. Given his current trajectory, it seems likely that he will be limited to around 75-80 pitches by Opening Day, further bolstering the case for Misiorowski or another candidate to step in.
