Nils Åman is heading back to Sweden after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Vancouver Canucks at the end of June. The forward has signed with Djurgårdens IF, marking the conclusion of his four-year journey within the Canucks organization.
Åman joined the Canucks in 2022 as a free agent after being drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Despite his promising start, his NHL appearances dwindled over the years. In the 2022-23 season, Åman played a career-high 68 games, contributing four goals and 12 assists. However, his usage saw a significant decline, with only 43 games in 2023-24, followed by just 19 games in 2024-25, and a mere two games in 2025-26.
During these seasons, Åman found more success with the Abbotsford Canucks, where he achieved a career-high of six goals and 35 assists in 55 games during the 2025-26 season, leading the team in points. This upcoming 2026-27 season will see him donning the Djurgårdens jersey, though it won’t be his first experience in the SHL, as he previously played for Lekands IF before joining the Canucks.
