Justin Jones, Cardinals Defensive Lineman, Out for the Season: What’s Next for Arizona?

Season-Ending Injury for Cardinals’ Justin Jones

Justin Jones, a critical part of the Arizona Cardinals’ defensive line, is set to sit out the remainder of the season due to a triceps injury, coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed on Wednesday. The Cardinals have since moved Jones to the injured reserve list and have filled the void in the roster with defensive lineman Naquan Jones, a former training camp participant with the Cardinals and recent Miami Dolphins’ practice squad member.

Gannon expressed optimism for Justin Jones’ future, stating, “He’ll come back better than ever,” while reassuring fans that the team will “figure it out” in terms of coping with his absence.

Details of the Injury

Jones sustained the injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions and was officially ruled out in the early stages of the third quarter. Despite participating in almost three full games this season, Jones managed to make his presence felt with four tackles, one loss tackle, a quarterback hit, and a fumble recovery. Interestingly, Jones was the most double-teamed Cardinals defender on pass rushes, drawing two defenders on approximately 50.9% of his pass rushes.

In March, Jones signed a three-year contract with Arizona worth up to $31.1 million, including a $9.75 million signing bonus.

Other Injury Updates from Cardinals’ Camp

In other injury-related news from the Cardinals’ camp, Gannon revealed that tight end Trey McBride is still undergoing concussion protocol following a severe collision with safety Brian Branch in the final quarter of a recent game. Right tackle Jackson Barton’s toe injury is also being monitored on a day-to-day basis.

Stepping in for backup Kelvin Beachum, who sat out the game due to a hamstring injury, Barton was a third-string right tackle for Arizona. He was replaced by Charlie Heck in the fourth quarter of the game. Gannon spoke highly of Heck on Monday, stating, “He came in, and he knows what he is doing. He is a pro, and we feel good about him going into the game. He is a capable player.” Beachum’s injury status will continue to be monitored throughout the week.
