Cleveland Browns Grapple with Injuries: Major Defensive Players Sidelined

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns’ Defensive Lineup Suffers due to Injuries

The Cleveland Browns, a team renowned for its defensive prowess, has been dealt a significant blow. On Wednesday, the team announced that four key defensive players have been placed on injured reserve, rendering them inactive for at least the next four games.

Key Defensive Contributors on Injured Reserve

Among the players now sidelined is the starting safety, Juan Thornhill. Joining him on the injured reserve list are linebackers Mohamoud Diabate and Tony Fields II, and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II. The announcement follows the Browns’ season-opening defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, where Diabate and Fields had to withdraw due to hip and ankle injuries, respectively.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski previously indicated that the players, including Hurst who is nursing an ankle injury, were on a week-to-week evaluation. However, the recent update confirmed that Thornhill, who missed only three defensive plays in the 33-17 loss on Sunday, had incurred a calf injury.

Replacements from Practice Squad and New Signings

In response to these unfortunate turn of events, the Browns have moved quickly to bolster their 53-man roster. They have signed three players from their own practice squad: wide receiver David Bell, cornerback Mike Ford Jr., and defensive tackle Sam Kamara. Additionally, the team has recruited linebacker Khaleke Hudson from the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.

Further reinforcing the squad, the Browns have added defensive tackle Siaki Ika, tight end Geoff Swaim, and linebacker Luiji Vilain to their practice group.

Upcoming Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars

While the Cleveland Browns grapple with these significant changes, their focus remains on the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. Despite the adversities, the team remains determined to put up a robust performance on the field.
