Colts Suffer Another Blow: Tyquan Lewis Joins Injured Reserve

Indianapolis Colts Grapple with Loss of Key Defensive Team Member

The Indianapolis Colts’ defensive team has been dealt another blow, as Tyquan Lewis was placed on the injured reserve list due to an elbow injury. This unfortunate incident took place during the triumphant game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.

Third Blow to the Colts’ Defensive Line

Lewis, the defensive end for the Colts, is the third pivotal player from the team’s defensive line to be moved to the injured reserve list since the start of training camp. Earlier, defensive end Samson Ebukam suffered a torn Achilles, while defensive tackle DeForest Buckner was placed on the injured reserve list following a high ankle sprain during the second week of play.

What Lies Ahead for Lewis?

Following the injury, 29-year-old Lewis will be missing at least the next four games, with the earliest possibility of return being the Week 9 game against Minnesota on November 3rd.

Performance Record and Replacements

Before this unfortunate turn of events, Lewis had started in the first four games, recording 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Since being drafted by the Colts in the second round in 2018, Lewis has played 69 games, with 20 starts, and has made 112 tackles, 15 sacks, 10 passes defensed, and one interception.

Colts Make Strategic Moves

In other news, the Colts (2-2) have made strategic moves to compensate for the loss. Defensive tackle Adam Gotsis has been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and cornerback Kelvin Joseph has been added to the practice squad.

Gotsis, 32, made his debut for the Colts after being promoted from the practice squad, where he made one tackle. A second-round pick by Denver in 2016, Gotsis boasts a record of 219 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and four fumble recoveries in 122 games (54 starts) with the Broncos (2016-19), Jacksonville Jaguars (2020-23), and now the Colts.

Joseph, 24, was earlier part of the Colts’ practice squad during Weeks 2 and 3. A Dallas 2021 second-round pick, he has a record of 39 tackles and one fumble recovery across 31 games (three starts) with the Cowboys (2021-22), Miami Dolphins (2023), and Seattle Seahawks (2023).
