Latest Updates: Kareem Hunt Rejoins Kansas City Chiefs
In news that has sent ripples through the NFL fraternity, esteemed sports journalist Adam Teicher reports that former Cleveland Browns running back, Kareem Hunt, has recently signed with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. However, he will not be participating in the forthcoming Sunday night match against the Atlanta Falcons, as confirmed by Chiefs coach Andy Reid.
Coach Andy Reid’s Statement
“We’ll evaluate his progress next week and assess his readiness,” stated Reid, highlighting that Hunt has been actively involved with the scout team. “He’s done quite well so far. His fitness levels are commendable, but to provide a comprehensive update, he needs to step onto the field and play a game. His current fitness levels, however, are a positive sign,” Reid added.
Undrafted Rookie Carson Steele and Veterans to Lead the Team
In the upcoming game against the Falcons, the Chiefs are set to rely on the prowess of undrafted rookie Carson Steele. Additionally, veterans Samaje Perine and Keaontay Ingram, who was promoted from the practice squad this week, will be sharing running back duties.
Hunt’s Joining Follows Pacheco’s Injury
Hunt’s signing to the practice squad was necessitated after Isiah Pacheco suffered a broken fibula, leading to his placement on injured reserve.
Hunt’s Significant NFL Journey
The Kansas City Chiefs originally drafted Hunt in the third round of the 2017 draft, a memorable year when they also brought in star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hunt had an outstanding rookie season, leading the league with an impressive 1,327 rushing yards, in addition to 53 catches and 11 touchdowns.
Unfortunately, a video surfaced in 2018 showing Hunt involved in a controversial incident, leading to his placement on the commissioner’s exempt list and subsequent release from the Chiefs.
Hunt’s Tenure with the Browns
Hunt, now 29, spent the last five seasons with the Browns in his hometown of Cleveland. His most productive season was in 2020 when he recorded an impressive 841 rushing yards and 38 catches. Last season, Hunt contributed 411 rushing yards and 15 catches to his team’s effort.
