The 49ers’ head coach, Kyle Shanahan, didn’t initially plan for rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall to make his NFL debut this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, after a week of rigorous practice, Pearsall is set to join the active 53-man roster. Less than two months ago, Pearsall was shot in his chest, and now he’s preparing to play his first regular-season snaps against the Chiefs.

Shanahan expressed delight and excitement about Pearsall’s debut. “It’s been great to see him out there. He’s had a tremendous week, and we’re excited to get him out there,” he said.

On August 31, Pearsall was shot during an alleged armed robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area. The gunshot, luckily, missed his vital organs, and the rookie wide receiver made a rapid recovery, which 49ers’ general manager John Lynch described as “truly miraculous.”

In terms of their kicking game, the Niners will be playing their third kicker in as many games Sunday as both Matthew Wright (back, shoulder) and Jake Moody (right ankle) have been ruled out. Anders Carlson, who was signed to the practice squad this week, will step in against the Chiefs.
