Seattle Seahawks Realign Offensive Formation Following Key Player’s Injury
George Fant’s Injury Hits the Seahawks Offensive Line Hard
The Seattle Seahawks were dealt a significant blow to their offensive line as they were compelled to place their first-choice right tackle, George Fant, on injured reserve. Fant, aged 32, is grappling with a knee injury, forcing him to be side-lined for at least the next four matches. This makes him eligible for a potential return by Week 7.
Fant’s injury occurred during the opening quarter of the Seahawks’ inaugural game. The injury kept him off the field for the remainder of that match and the subsequent triumphant game against the New England Patriots. Despite taking part in practice sessions this week, albeit in a limited capacity, Fant was ruled out of the Sunday showdown against the Miami Dolphins.
Stone Forsythe Steps Up as the New Right Tackle
In the wake of Fant’s absence, Stone Forsythe is set to maintain his starting position as right tackle. As a sixth-round selection from 2021, Forsythe managed to secure the 32nd spot out of 60 eligible tackles in the previous week’s pass block win rate, boasting an 84.6% score.
Coach Mike Macdonald expressed his satisfaction with Forsythe’s performance, stating, “I believe Stone has shown great progress, especially from the second half of the Denver game through to New England. He is well-prepared.”
Despite these efforts, the Seahawks currently hold the lowest ranking in PBWR (38.5%) after just two weeks of matches. Fant had been substituting for Abe Lucas, who is still on the physically unable to perform list following a knee operation in the offseason.
Further Adjustments to the Seahawks’ Lineup
To bolster their tackle depth, Seattle enlisted McClendon Curtis from their practice team. They also promoted inside linebacker Patrick O’Connell and outside linebacker Tyus Bowser from their practice team for the Sunday game. Safety Marquise Blair was re-signed to the practice team to fill the vacant spot.
Outside of Fant, the Seahawks had already ruled out outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu. Running back Ken Walker III and inside linebacker Jerome Baker are also doubtful to play. However, Coach Macdonald expressed confidence that Walker, who is recovering from an oblique injury from the first game, will be fit for the Monday night game against the Detroit Lions in Week 4.
