Seattle Seahawks’ Uchenna Nwosu Moves to Injured Reserve List
What This Means for the Seattle Seahawks
The injury puts Nwosu, arguably the Seahawks’ most formidable edge defender, out of commission for at least the upcoming four games. This timeline positions him for a potential comeback during the team’s Week 11 face-off against the San Francisco 49ers. This game is set to take place in Santa Clara, following the Seahawks’ bye week.
Head Coach Mike Macdonald, who had previously announced Nwosu’s unavailability for the forthcoming Thursday night game against the 49ers, hinted at a possible extended recovery period. Nwosu, a seasoned seventh-year player, had previously missed the last 11 matches of the 2023 season due to a torn pectoral muscle. He also sat out the opening four games of the current season after suffering a sprained MCL during the preseason finale.
Nwosu’s Short-Lived 2024 Debut
Nwosu’s return to the field on Sunday marked his first appearance in nearly a year. However, his comeback was cut short after participating in just 20 plays during the Seahawks’ loss to the New York Giants.
Other Seahawks Injury Updates
In addition to Nwosu, the Seahawks may also miss rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II in their upcoming Thursday game. Murphy, the team’s first-round pick, has been sidelined for the previous two games due to a hamstring injury. Coach Macdonald indicated that his return might require an additional week.
Moreover, the Seahawks could face further setbacks with potential absences from cornerback Riq Woolen (ankle) and outside linebackers Derick Hall (foot) and Boye Mafe (knee). The team’s practice reports listed non-participation for Hall and Woolen on Monday and Tuesday, while Mafe’s participation increased from limited to full. Macdonald’s Monday statement suggested that Mafe’s readiness for Thursday night’s game is still uncertain.
