Utah Hockey Club Announces Extended Absences for Sean Durzi and John Marino
The Utah Hockey Club relayed some unfortunate news on Wednesday, revealing that defensemen Sean Durzi and John Marino will be absent from the ice for quite some time. Both players are set to undergo surgeries, which will keep them sidelined for several months.
Sean Durzi’s Injury and Scheduled Recovery Time
Durzi, a 26-year-old defenseman, is expected to be out of commission for four to six months following a surgery on his right shoulder. The injury occurred during a game against the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 14, when he was hit by Devils’ defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler. Despite the setback, Durzi had a promising start to the season, contributing two assists in his first four games. This season marks the beginning of Durzi’s four-year contract with the Utah Hockey Club, a deal worth $24 million.
John Marino’s Back Surgery and Expected Timeline
John Marino, another defenseman for the Utah Hockey Club, also faces a prolonged absence. The 27-year-old player is projected to be sidelined for three to four months after having surgery on his lower back. Marino was acquired from the New Jersey Devils during the 2024 NHL draft in June. Unfortunately, he has yet to make his official debut with the Utah Club due to his injury.
Utah Hockey Club Recalls Maveric Lamoureux from AHL
In response to the injuries, the Utah Hockey Club has recalled Maveric Lamoureux from the Tucson branch of the American Hockey League. Lamoureux, who was a 2022 first-round pick, might get his chance to debut in the NHL on Thursday when Utah hosts the Colorado Avalanche. Despite being only 20 years old, Lamoureux has shown promise, scoring two goals and providing one assist in his four games with the Tucson Roadrunners.
